World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day In honor of World Diabetes Day and insulin discoverer Frederick Banting, Royan Institute’s Diabetes Clinic held a free educational seminar on Tuesday, November 12, focused on the prevention and management of diabetes and related metabolic conditions. The purpose was to raise public awareness, educate attendees, and provide specialized services.
The seminar began with a recitation from the Quran, the Iranian national anthem, and a short introductory video on the Royan Diabetes Clinic. She also noted that more than 540 million people globally have diabetes, with half unaware of their condition and over half a billion in the prediabetes stage. To prevent the onset and progression of diabetes, she highlighted the importance of lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet, regular exercise, blood sugar monitoring, and stress management.
Following her talk, a special Q&A panel was held with renowned specialists, including Dr. Roya Hosseini, an endocrinologist; Dr. Marjan Afghan, a sports physiology expert; Dr. Shaghayegh Hadizadeh, a nutritionist; and Dr. Bolourchi, a laboratory specialist in diabetes-related tests. The program continued with a presentation by Ilya, a talented student who showcased images of new technologies in diabetes prevention and management, introducing the latest tools and smart devices for diabetes care.
At the conclusion of the event, special awards were presented to five patients from Royan’s Diabetes Clinic who successfully controlled their blood sugar levels by following a structured diet and regular exercise plan under the guidance of Royan’s specialists. These awards celebrated achievements in diabetic foot care, weight control, and other aspects. Additionally, participants’ blood sugar levels were checked before the seminar, and specialists from the Royan Diabetes Clinic provided expert recommendations for managing blood sugar levels.
